FAMILY TIME

Go here!  Go There!  Do This! Do That!  Go to Work!  Go to School!  Earn a living!  Practice!  Play!  There is so much to do in our daily lives that some things just don’t happen the way we want them to or maybe even the way we need them to.  The one thing I recommend you do not compromise or skimp on is Family Time.  The time you spend  connecting with your child/children is critical in their emotional development as a person.  Having Family Time has many benefits for your children.

Benefits of Family Time For Children

  •  Increased sense of belonging
  •  Greater self awareness
  •  They get to know you as a person
  •  Improved communication skills
  •  They spend time with siblings
  •   Increased problem solving skills
  •   Increased acceptance of family members
  •   Laughter/Enjoyment/Down Time

Family Time is shared time between children and their parents.  It is time that you spend without other influences intruding on your space.  This can be difficult to make happen, especially because of all the coming and going a family does day to day.  Family  time needs to be planned, really put it on your family calendar.  Let everyone in the family know when it will be, especially your older children.  Family time does not have to be a an all day event.  It does need to be without distractions, however.  This means no cell phones, house phones, or  TV.   Try to set aside a time that parents can let go of stress and problems, even for an hour or so each week.
